The Racine County Homeless Veteran Stand Down is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 10.  The La Crosse County Homeless Veterans Stand Down traditionally takes place on the third Thursday in October.  However, this year it will be held Thursday, October 29. The Wood County Homeless Veteran Stand Down will be on Thursday, November 5.

These are days set aside for homeless veterans to relax and enjoy quick access to the many services available to them in one convenient location.

This year, the special day-long events will take place from 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. on October 10 at Gateway Technical College at 1001 S. Main Street in Racine, and from 8 a.m. - 3p.m. on October 29 at the Cargill Room at the Waterfront, 328 Front Street South in La Crosse.  A third event is scheduled for Thursday, November 5 in Wisconsin Rapids at the Centrailia Center, 220 3rd Avenue S. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Admission is free and available to veterans and their dependents only--that means homeless veterans, too!

The Veterans Assistance Foundation (VAF), has hosted or participated in the annual Stand Down in La Crosse for several years. This is the second year for Racine.  Exhibitors and service agencies partner with VAF to deliver such services as:

  • Health screenings;

  • Free hair cuts;
  • Free clothing;
  • Housing information and assistance;
